Following the Government's decision to commission Local Authorities to transfer unused buildings to community groups at a reduced price, FaithAction www.faithaction.org are running a seminar on
How to acquire and maximise the use of premises. it is devised for Faith Leaders, Faith Officers and Practitioners working with the Faith community. The date of the seminar is 19th OCTOBER [not November as previously stated] 9.30 to 4.30.

CDX Regional Community Development Challenge www.cdx.org.uk changed the date of their Yorkshire and the Humber regional event from 2nd October to 14th November.
To recap: The Community Development Exchange [CDX] is into the second half of their series of regional events to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by the Community Development Challenge report, which was commissioned by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
The remaining regions are:
South West 12th October; North West 18th October; South East 30th October and North East 1st November. Yorkshire & the Humber 14th November;

| 'Where is the Party? The Voluntary and Community Sector and the LAA' A series of workshops to be delivered by Regional Action West Midlands (RAWM) and the IDeA, will be particularly useful for those from the public sector who are responsible for LAA delivery planning along with their voluntary and community sector colleagues. These workshops will help to promote, and encourage, greater engagement of the Voluntary and Community Sector in LAAs. NAVCA regional small group sessions www.navca.org.uk
In 2005, Rob Arnold the Director of Voluntary Action Manchester wrote in his article 'Manchester - it's got a lot to answer for: The lesson to be learnt for the CVS movement':
'We may all like to think that we provide excellent services and that we have nothing to fear from competitive tendering, but that would be a huge gamble. You cannot be sure who will bid, you cannot be sure that the council will not be seduced by the prospect of saving money, and you cannot be sure that you will win'.
Two years later these statements are all still true. While many NAVCA
members are now much more aware of the possibility of having to face a
competitive tender situation, many are still unprepared, or under resourced,
to compete successfully in a competitive tender bid.
While you may not be able to predict who will bid against you, you can
prepare to put in your best possible bid and to give your organisation its
best chance of winning the contract.
Throughout October to December, NAVCA have arranged regional small group training sessions in tender processes, and bid preparation, to help you to prepare for this scenario.
Training sessions will take place on:

15 November - Burnley: 19 November - Exeter - 4 places remaining
20 November - Birmingham - FULL: 4 December - Basingstoke

All attendees receive a CD containing further details and information on the practicalities of applying for tenders.

"Have you ever wanted to pay local people to do local work but found
yourselves trapped by the benefits system? "
A group of third sector organisations called the CREATE Consortium have been struggling with this problem for some years, working with DCLG and DWP to propose a different approach - the Community Allowance. CREATE say, "Now things are moving - with City Strategy consortia and LEGI programmes, plus the new focus in government on helping 'those left behind' to move towards work. There is a real opportunity to open up the system so that local residents can work directly with grassroots community organisations to improve their lives and their neighbourhoods."
You can go to the CREATE event on 29th October to find out what it's all about because, they say, "with your help, this really could change the way we do regeneration at local level."

The Faith Enterprise Factor Conference II
