Poverty and Homelessness Action Week 2014: Resources now available online
The Action Week partners (Church Action on Poverty, Housing Justice, and Scottish Churches Housing Action) are now planning for Poverty and Homelessness Action Week 2014, which will take place from 25 January to 2 February. It aims to raise funds and awareness about these injustices, and inspire local churches in tackling them. We urge you to get involved!
Like in previous years, a wealth of resources for church services, discussion, activities, prayer and reflection are now available at www.actionweek.org.uk/downloadresources.html. These are free to download, or you can order hard copies. They will provide some ideas and materials which can be adapted to your own events. Please also take the time to register your events on the website, which enables us to support and publicise them, by following the link: http://www.actionweek.org.uk/event_registration.html

An internal Welfare Reform Group has been established and tasked to develop an action plan to ensure that the Council can best utilise its resources to support people who may be affected by the reforms.
We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete this short questionnaire(10 minutes)

Together Lancashire & Church Action on Poverty: Report and follow-up from meeting on October 8th
Many thanks to all of you who came to the meeting in Preston last Tuesday or expressed an interest in it! It was very encouraging to see such a large turn-out from across Lancashire, and fascinating to hear about the work you are doing in your communities. We had over 40 people in the room representing Christians from most of the denominations and from Blackpool, Fleetwood, Preston, Leyland, Blackburn, Hyndburn, Burnley and Lancaster. Together Lancashire is committed to working in collaboration with Church Action on Poverty in our shared mission to adress poverty and the causes of poverty in our county. Below are some of the possibilities of linking with them which we would encourage you to explore.
There are all kinds of ways we can work together to tackle poverty. Church Action on Poverty's work to tackle the root causes of poverty is a perfect complement to the vital frontline work your churches do. I hope that we can help you to speak out about the injustice and poverty you encounter in your communities.
As I promised on the night, this email contains links which should help you to do that. I hope it will be especially useful for those of you who couldn't come on the night. Here are some of the ways we can work together:
- Mobilise and inspire your church
Be part of the national Poverty & Homelessness Action Week from 26 January to 2 February – use our free resources to organise a service which raises awareness and generates donations for your own projects as well as our work. Sign up now at www.actionweek.org.uk
Or, if you can't take part in Action Week, you could use our free 'Close the Gap' resource pack to inform others in your church about poverty and inequality, and inspire them to take action. - Campaigning against irresponsible lending
You may be familiar with the terrible impact payday lenders and other legal loan sharks have in poor communities. Our main campaign action at the moment is the launch of a Charter to Stop the Payday Loan Rip-off, which would protect vulnerable people by ensuring proper regulation of high-cost lenders. You can find out more – and use our simple e-action to support the Charter - at www.church-poverty.org.uk/drowningindebt.
While you're doing so, you can sign up to receive regular email actions from Church Action on Poverty – a quick and easy way for you to speak out about the root causes of poverty. - Join us at our conference
Our annual conference is a great opportunity to: meet other people from across the UK who are involved in anti-poverty work; hear grassroots voices from poor communities; listen to high-profile speakers; and share stories of hope and transformation.

FOR VOLUNTARY, COMMUNITY & FAITH SECTORS
Preston City Council is inviting applications for grant-aid from Voluntary, Community and Faith
Sector organisations which demonstrate a contribution to one of the three funding themes:
Sports, Arts and Culture; Tackling Economic Exclusion; and Cleaner, Greener and Safer City.
Closing date of the applications is
4.30pm on Friday, 22 November, 2013.Applicants are advised to read the Grant Funding Policy (available
http://www.preston.gov.uk/yourservices/neighbourhoods-and-community/voluntary-andcommunity-
grants/
) before completing the application form.All applications will be processed in accordance with the grant funding policy.
We may receive more applications than we can fund so this will lead to either lower

We urgently need regulation to control these legal loan sharks. The new Financial Conduct Authority has proposed some action, but it's not enough. We must persuade them to take real action.

Our latest research report Working faithfully? is now available online to read and download. This research provides fascinating insights into evangelicals' experiences and opinions of the world of work, including views on the living wage, job satisfaction and perceptions of discrimination in the workplace . It also explores whether the Church really supports working people and cares about the unemployed.
We have created a free downloadable Powerpoint presentation and discussion questions based on the research to help both churches and small groups take a deeper look at some of the issues and think through how they can be more relevant to workers and the unemployed in their community. You can also order paper copies of the report.
