Resources and research for campaigning about food poverty

This was presented yesterday at the Manchester launch of The Fabian Society, (with the support of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation,) report from the independent Commission into food and poverty in the UK. Over 30 people from the church and public services such as the police and fire service were there for the world premiere showing of a locally produced movie which is directed and presnete dby Rev Steven Hewitt of Stanley Road Baptist Church.
It's now available on Youtube for you to watch again and share with your friends and churches.

Organizing for a Change - Meeting with Neil Jamieson .. Preston 14th January . preliminary information...
Citizen's UK and especially it's branch London Citizens is the largest and most effective broad based citizen's organizing movement in the country. In recent years it has mobilised to campaign successfully for the Living Wage, for a cap on interest rates from payday lenders, local jobs for local people, better quality social care, the resettlement and integration of refugees and many local causes. Bringing together faith groups, trade unions, schools and community organisations in large assemblies and smaller actions it builds power to negotiate with employers, developers, service providers and local and national government.

Over the past few months some of us have been exploring whether such a movement could be established in Preston and Lancashire. We have invited their Executive Director, Neil Jameson and Citizens UK Chairman Paul Regan to come to Preston to speak at an open meeting where we can explore together what might be involved.
Both Neil and Paul have over 20 years of experience of community organizing in London and are recognized as excellent speakers and the leading exponents of community organizing in Britain.
We are convening this public meeting on

I am contacting you regarding an event that is happening this month on the streets of Preston. We are currently looking for helpers and was wondering if you knew anyone we could contact who might be interested! Please share this email.
They Eat culture are producing a family friendly event in Preston on Sunday 15th November titled - The Last Battle: Stories from the streets of Preston's 1715 Jacobite rebellion
What this is.
What would you do if you encountered an angry Jacobite in full battle mode in a takeaway on Church Street? Run a mile? Join the rebels? Inform the Government? Ask to share a chip?
The Last Battle places historic moments from the 1715 Jacobite Rising into 2015. It is a family-friendly event which discover stories from the streets, in performance, sound and light.
What we require from our lovely helpers
Times of the event are 4.30 - 6.30 sunday 15th nov
- you will need to be on site from about 3pm
- there will be some costume requirements
- Steward the event/Guide audience members around the event
- you could be a rioter
We would love it if we can get as many people as possible involved!

2nd december Mental Health & Austerity Debate

A mental health and austerity debate will take place in the Council Chamber on Wednesday 2nd December 2015 from 5.30pm -7.30pm
The debate has been organised by Music and the Mind, a Preston-based, service user led organisation whose purpose is to challenge discrimination against people with significant mental health needs, please promote to anybody that you feel may be interested.
The debate will be chaired by Fr Tim and panellists are :-
