Please email the General Election candidates in your area and ask them to back the Sanctuary Pledge.
One of the worst examples of inequality in the UK is the fact that people seeking sanctuary here are forced into destitution by government policy. Now, while media attention is focused on the coming election, there is a great opportunity to tell the General Election candidates in your area that their support for sanctuary is an important voting issue for you.
13 organisations – who represent 7 million people across the UK – are backing the Sanctuary Pledge. Already, masses of work has gone into organising personal delegations in 200 of the most important marginal constituencies.
Now – this week - we need five minutes of your day to use our special, easy-to-use website to ask the candidates in your area to back the Sanctuary Pledge. Please email them now.

• Uncover some of the barriers and policy issues that keep people in poverty;
• Identify some of the myths about people in poverty and develop a programme of work to tackle them;
• Recognise and share examples of good practice in tackling poverty, particularly amongst small local organisations;
• Build the capacity of small organisations to campaign on issues in their local area.
To find out the issues and myths needed to tackle and build support across the region, they are asking community groups and organisations to run local activities to listen to people experiencing poverty. The activity can take any form and will identify up to three policy issues, or three myths, that people with experience of poverty think need to be tackled.
Free training available
All organisations who register to take part in the Listening Campaign will be entitled to attend free training from Church Action on Poverty.
Dates and venues for training are as follows:
Manchester – Tuesday 27th April - CAP offices , 35 Dale Street, Manchester
Preston - Friday 14th May GHS Enterprise Centre, Preston
Liverpool - Wednesday 26th May, Glaxo Neurological Centre, Liverpool
All initial training events will run from 10am – 2pm (including lunch). To maximise the benefits of attending, it is recommend that two or three members of your organisation attend.
Additional training events will be held later in the year.
