Radical Church Challenging Communities

DEVELOPING COMMUNITY EXPERIENCES One-year TLS programme

 

 

This programme is particularly relevant to volunteers involved with church-based community service, projects or activities from any denomination; ministers / vicars / priests engaged with community ministry; or anyone already active in their local neighbourhood or wishing to become more active with local community initiatives and organisations.

The aims of this programme are to develop an understanding of community development principles and practices in order to stimulate informed and practical engagement from a faith perspective.  It is designed to:

·        inform and enable reflection on a variety of approaches to community work with particular emphasis on Community Development Work

·        give practical experience of community work and equip participants to engage in such work in their own faith and community settings.

·        inspire and stimulate engagement with communities and within neighbourhoods as an expression of the mission of God.

Some of the many issues explored include Partnership Working, Personal Skills for Community Development, Theologies of Engagement, Working with Volunteers, Project Planning and Fresh Expressions of Church………..

While we hope that participants will sign up for the complete TLS programme which includes local tutor groups, study materials and ongoing support, participants are able to register to attend the 4 weekends only at a reduced rate.  Please encourage applications for either of these options by 31^st May 2010.

Roy McCloughry Teaching Day Saturday 8th May Inglewhite Church

 

 

 

 

The day will run with three sessions from 10 am – 3.30pm, the broad theme will be on the Church and today's culture, there will be a small charge (£3) for lunch and an offering for the ministry

Roy McCloughry teaches Personal and Social Ethics at St Johns college, Nottingham. He trained as an economist in London, latterly at the London School of Economics. He was John Stott's first Study Assistant and later followed John Gladwin in becoming Director of the Shaftsbury Project, a Nottingham based Christian think tank. He is also Director of Kingdom Trust, a Consultancy on Ethics and Society. He is Chair of Third Way Magazine, a non-executive Director of Lion Hudson Publishers and a Vice-President of the Shaftsbury Society. He has been an ethics consultant to Tear Fund, World Vision and the Children's Society, among other agencies, on subjects ranging from HIV/AIDS, Gender Issues, Population Ethics and Human Rights. He has presented, and participated in, a number of television programmes for BBC1, in particular two series of meditations, and has contributed to many programmes, particularly those with an ethical theme.

• Toolkits and resources – ideas, tools and equipment to take away
• Opportunity to network find encouragement and solidarity – relationships that help and inspire
• Thinking, reflection and prayer

An event for CEO's, project workers, church leaders, management committee members, youth and community workers, volunteers and people who live and work in communities confronting poverty.
The day will include a mix of:

• Inspiring main sessions
• Stories and case studies
• Interactive workshops
• Opportunities to network and meet with other activists
• The Square – meet the organisations providing further thinking, ideas and resources

Faithworks conference..

Just got back from the Faithworks conference.. great time meeting old and new friends,excellent talks and seminars.. Geoff Lucas, Brian Maclaren and a range of practical workshop type things.. Good to see my son Marcus too.who is on their 360  gap year programme. It seems to be great...would recomend it to 18 year old Christians wanting to do something useful and grow spiritually.
