Job summary
Methodist Action (North West) currently operates the Comfort Zone 'drop in' for homeless and vulnerable people to access food, refreshments and professional support. We are also the lead agency for the Blackpool Food Partnership providing food parcel provision for the Blackpool area in partnership with the Local Authority, ecumenical partners, charities and community groups. The purpose of this role is to co-ordinate projects within the Blackpool area, including liaison with partners, funders and recruitment and supervision of volunteers.

Main duties include:
Recruit, coordinate and supervise volunteers; facilitate training; take lead in delivery of Comfort Zone drop-in and Food Partnership Food Bank; ensure safeguarding of staff, volunteers and service users; manage food storage depot; preparing statistical information; excellent record keeping; represent the charity at external meetings with stakeholders; prepare and deliver reports.
This is a Fixed Term Full Time contract to 31st March 2014 (with a view to extending), flexible working hours including some evenings

Reflection and Prayer ; Rev Sue Griffiths shared some reflections on the unbroken circle of faith based on her sabbatical journeys to Colombia and Iona
The Ingol Group of Churches and their Share It project which addresses local poverty. Greg reported briefly on the emerging joint project between the churches of Ingol to address poverty through a voucher and referral system providing food parcels and clothing, meals, cookery and budgeting courses and signposting people to the work club and IT courses at the Intact community centre.
Release into Victory an initiative based on Christian values for survivors of sexual abuse. Gina Gonzales spoke about the new initiative for survivors of sexual abuse..now established as a community interest company.
As an organisation RELEASE into Victory (website link http://www.riv.btck.co.uk/ ) seeks to establish a safe, confidential, local, informal support service for adults over the age of eighteen, who have experienced or are affected by Childhood Sexual Abuse.
We will be providing non-counselling peer group support, where survivors and those affected by CSA can speak out freely with others who are able to relate to and empathies with the trauma they have experienced. And where the discussion of difficult topics around issues associated with CSA is encouraged and accepted as the norm.
We aim to work in collaboration and partnerships with relevant services to provide opportunities for positive Emotional Health & Well-being outcomes for those affected by CSA, and promote positive public awareness and transparency around issues and concerns associated with CSA.
A current priority is information gathering and RIV would like people to complete two questionnaires...
Report on the Serve the City week Ian Clarkson reported on last weeks busy activities in warm sunshine in which 167 volunteers from about 30 local churches had worked on 7 domestic and 4 community projects from repainting a scout hut to redecorating someone's home. Particularly encouraging to seeing young people from a number of churches volunteering and working hard. We discussed whether and how similar work might be undertaken in 2014...perhaps spreading it over the summer or working in local clusters of churches with more devolved management.
Drop in services for homeless and vulnerable people a co-ordinated approach. Sue Griffiths reported how through PCAN and the Homeless Forum we had met together a couple of times with all the homeless drop in providers and had worked out a way of sustaining the 7 day a week provision following the end of Methodist Actions ability to pay for the post of volunteer co-ordinator.. Thanks to an agreement with the Foxton Centre the Sundays and Monday sessions (with their 50+ volunteers) could be sustained with some professional supervision at least until the end of 2013.. which would also give some time to secure funding for the longer term.
Proposal for a Church Action on Poverty gathering - campaign group for Lancashire Greg reported that he had been talking with Church Action on Poverty and had fixed a date for an evening session on Tuesday 8th October 7.30pm (venue to be confirmed) when Liam Purcell their Communications & Supporter Relations Manager will come to talk about how we can organise to educate our churches and campaign about local poverty and welfare reform issues. They will invite all their members living in Lancashire and we will offer it as an open meeting to everyone in our networks..
Proposal for a consultation event on Faith Communities and the Public Sector. Together Lancashire is working towards hosting a number of consultation days bringing together Church / Faith leaders and activists with local Councils and Public sector leaders to talk about strengthening partnerships and maximising the contribution of faith in social action and community work. There is an opportunity to build on the recent Evangelical Alliance Faith in the Community report (download it from here http://www.eauk.org/current-affairs/news/faith-in-the-community.cfm ) and some funding from the Cinnamon Network for civic engagement events http://cinnamonnetwork.co.uk/civic-engagement-sponsorship/ If we do something in Preston we have interest from the Faith Forum for running it in Inter Faith week in November.
Sharing of news around topics and projects in
We had a general catch up on the various work clubs, Street Pastors, Cedar House counselling centre, food poverty initiatives etc. We reflected on the amazing number of Christian volunteers who were involved in all these activities.. 400+ regulars just in the networks represented in the room... We talked a bit about training and upskilling volunteers..especially on issues of
welfare reform and digital inclusion.. we noted that the Council's social forum... (Next meeting Thursday July 25th 6pm in Guildhall / Charter Theatre lounge). Had been discussing this as well as credit unions and co-operatives.. Also Preston CVS is doing a mapping exercise of publicly available computing / Internet access facilities.

Greenbelt . We have two free festival tickets available for people who would like to go but can't afford it...They need to arrange their own tents and travel to Cheltenham... Contact Greg if you have people interested.
