S.E.E.D. Annual Fashion Show Saturday, 10 October 2015 from 19:00

This is going to be a great event and lots of people have worked very hard to put it all together. We also have lots of different people who are helping us out for free on the night be modelling, displaying their collections, performing live for us all and kind donation pieces for our auction.

Free Champagne on entry and free entry into Evoque nightclub in Preston afterwards included.

We really need to sell as many tickets as possible in order to make it all worthwhile for our charitable cause. If you cannot attend the event yourself, please consider putting our poster on social media (attached to this email) or even picking up some flyers from the office. There are two versions of the poster attached. The smaller version is better for Facebook etc as it has less text.

Background on Refugees and asylum seekers

The UK government is offering to accept 20,000 Syrian refugees selected from those still in the Middle East.

 

Before rushing in to offer your spare room or collect van loads of food to take to Calais take a few moments to read up on the situation.

The asylum seeker and refugee population in the UK - and in Lancashire is already established and needs our support.

 

Government Statistics show

There were 25,771 asylum applications (main applicants) in YE June 2015, an increase of 10%

compared with the previous 12 months (23,515). The number of applications remains low relative

to the peak number of applications in 2002 (84,132).

• The largest number of applications for asylum came from nationals of Eritrea (3,568), followed

by Pakistan (2,302) and Syria (2,204). A total of 11,600 people were granted asylum or an

alternative form of protection.

The purpose of this programme is to train people from the Preston communities to deliver practical healthy eating sessions and run pop-up cafes in community centres and church halls

Alison and I would also like to invite you to come along to one of the sessions to look at how it could fit in with and hopefully benefit the work you are doing

This is a very exciting piece of work for Preston which is being evaluated by Edge Hill University with the intention of rolling it out across the county, we are also planning to open a Real Junk Food Cafe in the city which will is based on the principles of Disco Soup
