Who is Get online day for?

Get online day is about helping people to get to grips with computers and the internet at their own pace with friendly people on hand to help; whether a complete beginner or someone who knows the basics but want to know a little bit more, Get online day is for everyone.

For people who are already online but know someone who's not, Get online day is the perfect opportunity to Pass IT on and encourage offline loved ones to attend a Get online day event for help and support with computers and the internet. At The Salvation Army in Preston  have been very pleased that a large number of unemployed people have taken part in the Opening Doors to Work Course held here over the last six months. We know that most have found it useful as a way of improving skills and supporting their efforts to find employment.

 

As a way of marking the end of the course we are holding an evaluation event where we will be presenting a report on the achievements of the project. We are combining this with the Get Online open day event we are holding as a member of the UK Online Centres network where we are intending to promote the use of our computer suite to members of the public who are not yet regular users of computers and the internet. We are including a flier about the event.

 

The event takes place on Friday 23^rd October from 10am -2pm. At about 11.30 we will be doing a short presentation of the report about the project, and hope to have the opportunity to present certificates to students who gained them on the course. We'd be delighted if you could be there for this. At the end of the morning there will be a light buffet lunch available.

Poverty & Homelessness Action Week 2010: free resources available now!

We are delighted to announce that a full range of resources is now available to help you plan an event for Poverty & Homelessness Action Week 2010. We hope you'll join us again in tackling poverty and homelessness between 30 January and 7 February.

Our theme this year is that there is Enough For All – that we can tackle poverty and homelessness by rediscovering the wealth within our own churches and communities, and sharing more freely with those around us.
