Dewsbury Minster (Rishworth Road, WF12 8DD)

Traditional approaches to using and teaching the Bible can be alienating for people in urban areas affected by deprivation, and others who tend not to use books as their preferred way of learning. Unlock has developed creative approaches to Bible study specifically designed for urban contexts, to overcome some of the barriers to exploring personal faith which text-based approaches present.

 

The day will include:

·   Creative approaches to using the Bible in urban mission

·   What works and what doesn't work

·   Helping 'urban disciples' relate the Bible to their day-to-day lives and experiences

 

Our facilitator:

 

Dawn Lonsdale is an experienced adult educator and consultant for Kinesis Consultancy Limited, as well as Chief Officer of Unlock since 2004.  She supervises trains and resources Unlock urban workers in UK cities. She is passionate about people who are excluded and doesn't believe anyone should be left out of the opportunity to explore and grow into their personal faith.

Report on Fishergate Baptist Church Conference Nov 15th

We had a very worthwhille day at Fishergate Baptist Church last month. We have circulated  the report on the conference I have compiled and hope people will find it interesting reading.

As you can see if you read the report we are now committed to three main lines of action.

 

These are:

 

1) Recruiting a group of  around 12 committed Christians to join the membership of the church and stremgthen its mission and ministry. We will be advertising for these "12 Disciples" in the New Year

 

2) commissioning an architectural feasibility study and drawing up a business plan for the future sustainable redevelopment of the building

 

3) Making better use of the basement facilitiies developing the outreach to homeless and needy people (with an emphasis on the young) in partnership with the other agencies represented in the Preston Homeless Network.

 

For each of these we will be attempting to draw together small working parties in the New Year and we will be approaching those who indicated some interest in serving on these groups.  If you have time and energy to offer please contact me  pcan@maister-smith.fsnet.co.uk

Christmas for Homeless People in Preston

 

Please remember Homelessness affects people in Preston 52 weeks every year.

Information about services available to help homeless people, including a leaflet to download, print and hand out is now available on the web site of the Preston Homeless Network at

This Christmas

Various events and activities are being planned to provide food, friendship and shelter for people in need Volunteers are needed at various times over the season to help.. Please contact The Foxton Centre for information on 01772 555925

Big Issue in the North Issue 700 due out from Monday 10^th December will be a bumper double size Christmas two week special. It will cost £2 (rather than the usual £1.50). Please support our vendors by buying a copy from them. And better still.. make it a weekly habit throughout the year.
