We agreed at the meeting that we would arrange a meeting of more key stakeholders to scope holding a large conversation evening early next year. It was agreed that this scoping meeting would be held at the Calvary Christian Fellowship, Lostock Hall PR5 5HR on Tuesday 15th November from 1.30pm.

Our lecturers will encourage our thinking about some of the issues of justice in a fast-changing world. Their contributions may help our wrestling with these questions in the light of the love of God revealed in Christ, for whose coming Kingdom we pray. Reaching The Next Generation

Please do read below about these exciting events in the NW. We have sent out many personal invites so please do forgive me if this is a second copy of this invite. We hope to have a new regional administrator in post by mid-November to implement our regional communication strategy and so be much more effective in our communication.
On November 16-18 we are inviting you to join with us for one of five special North West regional vision events. Scripture Union's National Director Tim Hastie-Smith will be joining us to talk about the challenges facing us as the church seeks to communicate the good news in today's world with a focus on the significance of the Bible for a digital generation.
Many of those who make a faith commitment do so before the age of 18. These formative years are vital for instilling beliefs and values that shape a generation. Scripture Union exists to work with churches to enable even more effective work with children young people and families through our resources and our face to face work.
We are planning to run five events for church leaders, children's and youth leaders, SU volunteers and supporters and others. On each of the lunchtimes there will be a free lunch provided of soup, sandwiches and homemade cake while the evenings a selection of fresh cakes and drinks will be provided for free. Breakfast will include a bacon roll or something healthier, again for no charge. While this is a great chance to meet and question the new national director of SU it is really for all who have a desire to see more children and young people hearing the good news today to be inspired and resourced.
At each event, there will also be an extensive display of resources to buy as well as the opportunity to hear from local staff about the work taking place in the region and sharing resources and ideas that could be effective in your mission.
There is no charge for the events but it is important to book into the event you plan to attend for catering purposes and will only hold a limited number of people. Please contact Richard Witham, Richardjw@scriptureunion.org.uk or 01517244213, indicating which event(s) you intend to attend.

I'm delighted to be able to let you know that Inter-Faith week is running again as a national event; this year it takes place over the last week of November. Preston Faith Forum, in partnership with LCC and Preston City Council, is organising a full programme for the week, under an overall theme of 'tackling poverty'.
We will be sending you a leaflet with all the events very shortly, and in the meantime, I'd like to draw your attention to the following
a. The Faith Trail. Over the last two years we have been providing for large organisations the opportunity to visit places of workshop of the 7 different faiths represented on Preston Faith Forum. Typically this has taken place over half a day, visiting 3 or 4 places, and then the others on another half day. Participants are greeted by the leader / priest / minister, and hear a short talk about the basic tenets of that faith, followed by discussion about the role that centre plays in the (local) community. There's an opportunity to look around the centre, and to ask questions. Feedback has always shown this to be a hugely enjoyable experience for all who've taken part. We have recently extended this to take groups from local high schools on the Faith Trail, again, with overwhelming positive feedback. Now, we want to provide the opportunity for members of the public to enjoy this experience, so we are running the faith trail TWICE during inter-faith week, three venues on Sunday morning, the others on Tuesday morning. b. Launch event. This will take place at the Catherine Becket centre, Deepdale Road, on Sunday 20th November, starting promptly at 1.30, and finishing at 4 pm. There will be presentations from the different faiths, explaining the historical view of that faith about poverty, and outlining what sort of social action is engaged in. various faith-based organisations with a remit to tackle poveryty will also have a presence. It's a good networking opportunity, with refreshments available at 4 pm. Please do come along and take part.
c. Closing celebration For the first time we are making use of the excellent facilities provided by the pavilion in Avenham park. We are planning a 'hands-on' experience through the vehicle of a 'labyrinth', plus a short talk on inter-faith work from John Devine, of the NW forum of faiths, and a communal food celebration – we are asking those who attend to bring examples of food from their own culture (clearly labelled) AND ALSO to bring foodstuffs to contribute to the Preston Food bank, supporting the homeless and vulnerable in the city.

Supporting Victims from within the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector
Free Workshops – 1st November and 11th November 2011
Anybody can become a victim of crime and/or anti-social behaviour but the effect can have a hugely varying impact on people's lives. Some people are more vulnerable than others to this impact and it is our aim in Preston to ensure that the people who most need that support have access to it.
We ask you, as a voluntary, community or faith group working on a day to day basis with people who may have been victims, to consider the following:
§ Would you recognise when somebody may have been a victim of crime and/or anti-social behaviour and have a full understanding of the impact?
§ Would you know how to make sure they were given access to further support and/or methods of reporting if they wanted to?
Preston Community Safety Partnership with Victim Support and Help Direct have organised a number of workshops aimed at providing clear pathways in regard to the above. The workshops will be held on 1st November and 14th November and a representative from your organisation is warmly invited to attend one of the sessions.
The workshops are free to attend but places are limited to 15 per session so will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

This website also demonstrates what Christian groups are doing to serve the poor within the UK.
JustMap has three aims: Firstly, the prayer of the Lord Jesus was that Christians should be one. We hope this vehicle will help to show our nation that the church is one, and that the body of Christ is relevant in society today. Through this site Christian groups can also learn what others are doing in the same field throughout the country.
Secondly, through JustMap the smallest Christian social project serving their local community will be able to gain national prominence.
Thirdly, through JustMap we hope that another 10,000 Christians will be released into social action volunteer opportunities.
This is the big one. We need 10,000 young people and youth workers there.
Excellent arrangement and briefing details for this event appear on the Chooseyouth website www.chooseyouth.org.
There will be great speakers including many young people from our campaigns around the country and other national speakers. There will be the graffiti wall, a big brother booth, the Dhol Blaster drummers, Banner Theatre, lobbying workshops, banner and poster making workshops, action now workshops, and a silent disco outside Parliament.
If we are to have any chance of saving what remains of the service your attendance at this is crucial.
This will be an excellent opportunity for political education with young people and a good day out too. It could also make a real difference but a poor turnout will just encourage the steam roller of destruction to keep rolling.
We need everyone who is attending our Lobby of Parliament to make an appointment with their MP - we want to get our message across to as many MPs as possible from across the political parties. Our youth services are too good to lose!
It will only take a couple of minutes to ask your MP for a meeting on the 25 October and it will make such an impact on our campaign. Please let us know by emailing campaigns@byc.org.uk if you do arrange a meeting with your MP by emailing us. Remember if you are in a group you could arrange all to meet your local MP at the same time.
We will be running training throughout the day which will help you feel confident about meeting your MP. There will be lots of support for first time lobbyists.
